Unveiling SidescanTools at FOSSGIS Conference 2025

From 26.03.2025 - 29.03.2025 our colleague Finn Spitz and Geomar project partner Mia Schumacher attended the FOSSGIS Conference 2025 and announced the publication of SidescanTools. The open-source software aims to aid researchers and entrepreneurs in processing sidescan sonar data, remove noise and artifacts, perform corrections, and generate georeferenced images.

Additionally, the team used the conference as a platform to engage discussions and to gain fascinating insights into various projects within the world of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

A big “thank you!” to all the FOSSGIS volunteers who made this well-rounded and successful conference possible!

SidescanTools is being developed as part of the GhostNetBusters project, which focuses on detecting small objects in sonar data. This is a collaborative effort with sonoware GmbH (Kiel) and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, funded by the AI fund of the State of Schleswig-Holstein.
