During the Ocean Re-Creation Challenge by TransMarTech SH, sonoware has developed an offline tool to enhance SONAR images created by light-weight SONAR systems.
Since then, sonoware has developed a processing software to enhance SONAR images in real-time with low computational load.
In the above plot, the raw SONAR data is depicted on the left, the enhanced data is shown on the right. The SONAR beams are steered from the bottom (0°) to the front of the vessel (90°) and have a range of 12 meters.
The enhanced SONAR data is now being used at GEOMAR for collision avoidance in autonomous underwater vehicles.
